Student - Bullying

Bullying: A Definition

Bullying is defined as behaviour that includes intimidation, coercion, inappropriate physical contact, unequal use of power, name calling, any form of discrimination, asking for money, spreading rumours and taking sides against others. This can be through any technological means (‘e-bullying’), through others or directly between two parties. Whatever way, bullying is unacceptable, anti-social behaviour.

What should we do if we are, or see others being bullied ?

A group of Year 10 students have been trained as Peer Mediators. They have identified themselves to their fellow students and are trained to receive reports of bullying from the Anti-Bullying Co-ordinator and address the issues, securing mutual co-operation through Mediation Agreements.

A large group of teachers at St Clair High School have been trained to interview bullies and victims in the Pikas Method, (Method of Shared Concern). This method is a known procedure for the prevention and follow-up of bullying.

Students will learn through school assemblies, the School Newsletter, Year Assemblies as well as through peer preventative programs (Peer Support, Peer Mediation) and dramatic recreations, the importance of reporting bullying at St Clair High School.
